Gum recession treatment
Pinhole® surgery for receding gums
When gums recede, tooth roots are left exposed — causing sensitivity, a "long tooth" look, and a higher risk of root decay. Recession is most often caused by gum disease, but aggressive brushing, teeth grinding, and misaligned teeth can all contribute. Left untreated, it can progress to root damage and even tooth loss. The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique treats recession without the cutting and grafting of traditional gum surgery.
Through a tiny pinhole opening, the gum tissue is gently loosened and guided back over the exposed root, then held in place with small collagen strips. No tissue is taken from the roof of your mouth, and there are no stitches.

A tiny pinhole
A small opening — about the size of a pinprick — is made in the gum above the receded area. No incision, no flap of tissue is cut open.

Tissue is repositioned
Working through the pinhole, the gum tissue is loosened and gently slid back down to cover the exposed tooth root.

Collagen holds it in place
Small collagen strips are placed through the pinhole to stabilize the tissue while it heals — no stitches needed.
